Google and Microsoft offer lucrative deals to promote AI, but even $500,000 won't sway some creators

In a fierce competition to attract users to their AI services, tech titans Microsoft and Google are leveraging social media influencers to promote their products. This strategy is not unique to these giants; other players like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta are also tapping into the influencer market to create buzz around their AI offerings on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Industry experts report that these promotional deals can amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars, reflecting a substantial rise in advertising spend by AI companies. In fact, generative AI platforms are projected to invest over $1 billion on digital advertising in the U.S. by 2025, marking a 126% increase from the previous year. As the AI boom continues, influencer marketing is emerging as a pivotal area for engagement. The advertising race is intensifying, especially with major events like the Super Bowl on the horizon. Anthropic, for instance, is allocating millions for advertisements during this high-profile event, particularly targeting OpenAI's recent introduction of ads in ChatGPT. Influencers are being compensated to showcase various AI tools, from creating LinkedIn posts about Anthropic's Claude Code to Instagram videos featuring Microsoft Copilot. With the launch of Gemini 3, Google is solidifying its market presence amid ongoing updates from competitors like Anthropic, Microsoft, and Meta. Reports indicate that creators are being offered between $400,000 and $600,000 for long-term partnerships with these tech firms. AJ Eckstein, CEO of Creator Match, noted a significant surge in interest from AI brands seeking to connect with users in more genuine ways. Anthropic is particularly aggressive in its influencer marketing strategy, having recently appointed Lexie Barnhorn to lead its outreach efforts. Content creators, such as Megan Lieu, are capitalizing on this trend, often attributing their appeal to their backgrounds in tech and data science. Lieu, who boasts nearly 400,000 followers, highlighted her partnership with Anthropic to promote its products, revealing that her deals typically range from $5,000 to $30,000. Despite the lucrative opportunities, not all creators are eager to accept such deals. Many have expressed ethical concerns regarding AI, fearing that sponsorship could alienate their audiences. Some creators, like Jack Lepiarz, openly decline offers linked to AI products, prioritizing their artistic integrity over financial gain. Lepiarz, who has over 7 million followers, turned down a $20,000 deal for AI generative tools, stating that he cannot support initiatives that threaten the livelihoods of traditional creators. As the conversation around AI continues to evolve, it appears that while some creators are reaping the benefits of lucrative sponsorships, others are choosing to stand firm against what they perceive as a threat to their craft.
