Deezer says 44% of songs uploaded to its platform daily are AI-generated

Deezer has revealed that a striking 44% of new music uploaded to its platform each day consists of AI-generated tracks. This figure translates to nearly 75,000 AI-created songs being added daily, culminating in over two million such uploads every month. Despite this surge in production, the consumption of AI-generated music remains relatively low, accounting for just 1-3% of total streams. Alarmingly, approximately 85% of these streams have been flagged as fraudulent and subsequently demonetized by Deezer. The latest statistics underscore a significant trend toward increased AI-generated content, with uploads growing from around 10,000 tracks per day in January 2025 to over 60,000 by January of this year. To maintain the integrity of its platform, Deezer has implemented measures to ensure that songs labeled as AI-generated are excluded from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists. In a recent shift, the company announced it will cease storing high-resolution versions of AI tracks. This announcement follows the rise of AI-generated music, which recently topped the iTunes charts across major markets including the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Deezer's CEO, Alexis Lanternier, commented on the phenomenon, stating, "AI-generated music is now far from a marginal phenomenon, and as daily deliveries keep increasing, we hope the whole music ecosystem will join us in taking action to help safeguard artists’ rights and promote transparency for fans." He highlighted the effectiveness of Deezer's proactive measures to combat AI-related fraud and ensure fair compensation in streaming. A survey conducted by Deezer last November revealed that an overwhelming 97% of respondents could not distinguish between AI-generated music and human-created tracks. Furthermore, 52% of participants expressed that AI-generated songs should not compete with human-made music in charts, while 80% advocated for clear labeling of AI-generated content. Deezer has been at the forefront of addressing the rise of AI in music, having started to tag AI tracks in June 2025, making it the first streaming service to adopt such a practice. Throughout 2025, the platform tagged over 13.4 million AI tracks. Meanwhile, competitors like Qobuz and Spotify are exploring different strategies for managing AI-generated content, often relying on filters to identify low-quality songs and leaving transparency efforts to distributors.
