A U.S. government website dedicated to vaccine information has been compromised, now displaying an array of AI-generated spam content. This site, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), has reportedly showcased similar inappropriate material—predominantly LGBTQ+ and gay-themed posts—since at least May 12, based on archived records. The identity of those behind this defacement remains unknown, raising questions about their motives beyond simply disseminating AI-generated spam. Historically, official U.S. government websites have been targeted by malicious actors to promote scam advertisements and hacking services. A recent investigation by 404 Media has revealed that the HHS vaccine website is part of a broader spam scheme that also involves websites owned by reputable organizations like NPR, Nvidia, and Stanford University. These sites have been redirecting visitors to what journalist Sam Cole describes as "nonsense SEO spam pages," hosted on wowlazy.com. Attempts to reach HHS for further comment have gone unanswered.
