Advocating for AI companions was Thao Ha, an associate professor of psychology at Arizona State University, who co-founded the Modern Love Collective. She asserted that AI represents an exciting evolution of connection rather than a threat to human love. Ha highlighted how AI can provide emotional validation, adapting to users without judgment and offering a level of engagement that many might not receive in their human relationships. Contrasting this view, Justin Garcia, executive director at the Kinsey Institute, argued that reliance on AI for affirmation is not beneficial for human relationships.
