Get ready for the AI chatbot Halloween costumes

As artificial intelligence chatbots gain widespread recognition, they're not just changing technology; they're also influencing Halloween costumes. Taha Haider, a 26-year-old product manager from the Bay Area, found himself at a costume party without a costume to wear. However, with a simple pen and paper, he transformed his orange T-shirt—similar to Anthropic's branding—into a clever homage to the AI company by creating and attaching the Claude logo to his chest. "Those who got it understood immediately," he recounted. "It was a clear divide between AI enthusiasts and the rest." AI brands are quickly becoming staples in pop culture, with many tech aficionados eager to showcase their support through merchandise and even costumes. Stephen Michael, a 23-year-old founder of Propel Earth, decided to embody ChatGPT this Halloween. He purchased a silver bodysuit online and had his father print out the OpenAI logo for an authentic touch. Michael humorously noted that he looked like a character from a futuristic film, and partygoers engaged him in conversation, treating him as if he were the chatbot itself. Asara Near, another AI enthusiast, donned a Claude costume in 2024, citing the chatbot's quirky personality as his inspiration. Although he wouldn't choose to go as ChatGPT, Near crafted a custom shirt and lanyard for his costume, spending several hours on the project. He attended various local AI events, where many participants worked in AI startups and labs. Near experienced playful interactions, with attendees testing his knowledge by attempting to "jailbreak" him with prompts. The rise of mass-market AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude in recent years signifies their growing influence. Sean Percival, a 46-year-old e-commerce executive, dressed as ChatGPT in 2023 and noted that even among a tech-savvy crowd, many were unaware of the costume's significance. He created a distinctive outfit featuring the OpenAI logo and a humorous take on the user interface. His girlfriend, meanwhile, chose to represent the AI image generator Midjourney, cleverly using a distorted logo and playful modifications to her costume. As these AI technologies become more mainstream, their presence in holiday celebrations reflects their maturation in society. Halloween costumes inspired by AI chatbots may signal a new era where technology and culture intertwine more deeply than ever.
