2 in 10 blue-collar workers already using AI tools on the job, finds new Indeed report

A recent study by Indeed reveals that artificial intelligence is swiftly becoming a crucial skill in India's workforce, with professionals from various sectors gearing up to incorporate it into their daily operations. The Work Ahead Report, which surveyed over 3,000 white- and blue-collar employees, indicates that 43% of workers are optimistic about the technologies they will utilize over the next two to five years. This includes generative AI and the new wave of agentic AI systems designed to handle complex tasks with minimal human intervention. The research underscores that mid-career professionals, particularly those aged 35 to 54, are at the forefront of AI readiness. Almost half (49%) of individuals in this age group expressed confidence in adapting to AI-driven workplaces, a stark contrast to the 41% of younger workers aged 18 to 24 who feel similarly prepared. Despite this confidence, there is a significant call for improved training; over half (56%) of mid-career respondents seek enhanced learning support. Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India, noted, "The growing interest in agentic AI indicates we are on the cusp of a transformation where job seekers are not merely reacting to change but are actively leading it." The report emphasizes that AI has transitioned from a buzzword to a practical tool in everyday workflows. One in three professionals anticipate using generative AI regularly, while 25% are preparing for the integration of agentic AI tools. This trend is also evident among blue-collar workers, where 70% acknowledged that technology is already enhancing their work, and 20% reported actively employing AI tools in their tasks. From streamlining paperwork to aiding customer service, AI is beginning to redefine roles that were once thought of as resistant to digital advancement. However, with growing confidence comes a degree of apprehension. Almost one-third of the surveyed workers expressed worries about job security if they do not keep pace with technological advancements. In response, employees are seeking specific support; around 29% prefer self-paced online courses to enhance their AI skills, while others are looking for structured upskilling programs during work hours. Indeed's findings suggest a pivotal shift in the Indian labor market, positioning AI not as an optional skill but as a fundamental requirement closely tied to employability, career advancement, and future job security.
