On Tuesday, Adobe revealed that its highly anticipated AI assistant for Photoshop is now available to users as a beta feature on both web and mobile platforms. This announcement coincided with the introduction of enhanced AI-driven image editing functionalities for Firefly, Adobe's tool designed for media creation and editing. Originally showcased during the MAX event in October, the AI assistant is designed to streamline creative processes. It empowers users to effortlessly remove objects or individuals from images, modify colors, and adjust lighting simply by using natural language prompts. For instance, users can request the assistant to add a soft glow, crop images in specific formats, enhance shadows, or alter backgrounds to achieve a completely different aesthetic. Adobe has made it clear that paid Photoshop users will enjoy unlimited generations with the AI assistant until April 9, while free users will be granted an initial allowance of 20 generations. Additionally, a new feature called AI markup is entering public beta, enabling users to draw markers on their screens and instruct the AI to transform those elements. For example, by drawing a flower or indicating an object for removal, users can effectively alter their image backgrounds. Moreover, Adobe is enhancing Firefly with new editing tools. The Generative Fill feature, which has been part of Photoshop for some time, is now being integrated into Firefly, allowing for the replacement or addition of objects and corresponding background adjustments. Other notable features include generative remove for object elimination, generative expand for enlarging images using AI, and generative upscale capabilities. The company is also introducing a one-click tool to facilitate background removal in images. Back in February, Adobe announced that it would allow unlimited generations for Firefly subscribers to promote greater engagement. Since then, it has continually expanded its offerings by incorporating over 25 third-party video and image generation models, including advancements from Google, OpenAI, Runway, and Black Forest Labs.
