Adani in talks with Meta, Google for data centre partnership: Report

The Adani Group is reportedly engaging in discussions with Meta Platforms and Google's parent company, Alphabet, to forge partnerships within its rapidly growing data center sector. This information comes from a Bloomberg report dated March 25, which cites sources familiar with the ongoing negotiations. In addition to these tech giants, Flipkart is also in talks with the Adani Group as the conglomerate explores various locations across India to establish new data centers. The discussions surrounding these partnerships remain confidential and are still in the preliminary stages. This initiative is part of Adani's ambitious $100 billion investment in digital infrastructure, aimed at positioning the conglomerate as a key provider of land and renewable energy solutions for large-scale facilities vital for artificial intelligence and cloud services. While specific sites for the proposed data centers have not yet been determined, the interest reflects a broader trend of investment in India's digital landscape. AdaniConnex, a collaboration between Adani Enterprises and EdgeConneX, announced a partnership with Google last October, which included a significant $15 billion investment to establish India's largest AI infrastructure hub in Visakhapatnam. The current talks signal a new wave of investment beyond these previous commitments. India's growing appeal as a destination for foreign investors and technology companies is underscored by its vast geography and rapidly expanding economy. This surge in interest is part of a global push to enhance digital infrastructure. However, Adani faces stiff competition in the domestic market. Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries has already signed an $11 billion agreement for data center development in Visakhapatnam, while Tata Consultancy Services secured $1 billion from TPG to expedite its own data center initiatives. Additionally, global players like Amazon are planning to invest $12.7 billion in cloud infrastructure in India by 2030, and OpenAI is looking to establish a 1-gigawatt data center in the region.
