In a groundbreaking collaboration, Adani Enterprises, through its joint venture AdaniConneX, has teamed up with Google to establish the largest AI data center campus in India, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This venture will be accompanied by the development of new green energy infrastructure to support its operations. Google's ambitious AI hub represents an investment of around $15 billion over five years, aimed at 2026-2030. The project is designed to meet the surging demand for AI computing in India, featuring gigawatt-scale data center operations that will be backed by a robust subsea cable network and renewable energy systems, as highlighted by the Adani group in an official statement. This monumental initiative is being developed in partnership with AdaniConneX and Airtel. Gautam Adani, the Chairman of the Adani Group, expressed pride in this historic collaboration, emphasizing its significance for India's digital future. "This is more than just an investment in infrastructure. It is an investment in the soul of a rising nation," he declared. The new AI hub will be equipped with specially designed infrastructure that aims to significantly increase computing capacity and bolster the country's AI ecosystem. The development will also see co-investments in clean energy generation, transmission lines, and energy storage systems in Andhra Pradesh, enhancing both the regional electric grid and national sustainability goals. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, echoed this sentiment by stating that the initiative will lay the groundwork for India's transformation in the AI sector. "To unlock India's massive potential in the AI age, we are investing in the Google AI hub, which will deliver the essential foundation for growth and innovation," Kurian explained. This partnership is projected to create tens of thousands of jobs across various sectors such as technology, construction, and clean energy, while also advancing digital inclusion and AI capabilities in India. Adani described the announcement as a pivotal moment for the nation's technological aspirations, positioning Visakhapatnam as a global technology hub. The facility will provide the necessary TPU and GPU-based computing power for advanced applications including deep learning, neural network training, and large-scale AI model inference. It aims to foster an ecosystem that drives AI solutions for critical sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, logistics, and finance, ultimately empowering the nation’s brightest minds to tackle complex challenges.
