New Aadhaar app launched in India with offline verification, mobile number update, and more features

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has unveiled an upgraded version of the Aadhaar app, featuring a range of enhancements designed for everyday convenience. Users can now update their mobile numbers linked to Aadhaar online, utilize QR code verification, and selectively share their Aadhaar information with ease. Available for both iPhone and Android users, the new Aadhaar app emphasizes a 'Mobile First' approach, providing straightforward access to essential services such as identity verification. Among the most anticipated features is the ability to update mobile numbers, which is now prominently accessible from the app's home screen. Additionally, users can manage Aadhaar details for up to five family members within the Profile section of the app. A standout feature is the offline Aadhaar verification, eliminating the need to disclose the Aadhaar number for various transactions. The 'Selective Share' option allows users to share only specific details—such as their name, photo, date of birth, address, gender, and mobile number—without revealing their full Aadhaar number. This feature is particularly useful for situations like hotel check-ins and office verifications, where users previously had to provide photocopies of their Aadhaar. The app also generates a QR code linked to the user's Aadhaar information, facilitating identification at authorized terminals, banks, and government offices without the need for a physical card. UIDAI has designed the app to be secure and user-friendly, ensuring a seamless experience across various platforms. Originally introduced in November 2025, the full version of the app is now officially available for download, marking a significant step forward in Aadhaar services for users.
